Books I'm Reading

This is a daily liturgical reading with a scripture from the Psalms, New Testament and Old Testament. It also provides a snapshot from church history and suggested prayers each day. It has been an incredible jourey for me as I have worked through this book seeking after God's heart.

Spiritual Leadership is one of the best books EVER written on leadership. I always have this on my desk and am constantly referencing and rereading specific chapters throughout the year. Recently I have dug through the "Leader's Schedule" section trying to learn how to gain control of my time/calendar/schedule. Even if you are typically a follower, there is someone that God has put in your life for you to lead and this book will help you do just that.

Doug Fields is a youth mininstry genius. But I have to give Tony Simpkins credit here. He turned me onto this book and it continues to change the way I think, the way I teach, and the overall structure of our student ministry at River Ridge. This is a must read for anybody in student ministry!

Do you like the story of David and Goliath in the Old Testament? Well, "Covenant of War" is the 2nd book in a 5 book series about the life of David and the men he spent his life with. It is a fictional account of David's life but it is based on and stays as close to Biblical and historical truth as possible. The author takes some liberties, but none that contradict Biblical accounts. It is a fast read, and I hope to have it done in time to give to my father for his birthday on April 7th (shhhh, don't tell him). But if historical based fiction is your thing, or if you want to see what some of the Bible stories sound like in a novel, you need to check out this series, and you can do so at www.lionofwar.com - they are even making a movie based on these books...it's gonna be good!

I got Carly this book for Christmas, and now I'm reading it for pure joy and adventure. A.S. Peterson is the brother of my favorite musician, Andrew Peterson, and he approaches writing with the same passion Andrew approaches music. Fiddlers Gun is a story about an orphan girl named Fin Button who grew up in an orphange just outside of Savannah, GA during the Revolutionary War. I'm a little better than half way done with this book, and can't wait to read the sequel - "Fiddler's Green" soon.
